FAQ’S

  1. 1. What is “CTA whitelisting” on Tata’s DLT portal and why is it necessary?

CTA stands for Call-to-Action — such as URLs, phone numbers or email links included in SMS campaigns. It must be whitelisted on the Tata DLT portal before use so that your messages comply with regulatory requirements (under the A2P SMS framework) and avoid blocking.

  2. 2. What types of CTAs must be whitelisted on the Tata portal?

    According to the guide:
    – Numbers (mobile number, landline, toll-free)
    – URLs (including static URLs, dynamic URLs with parameters, or short links)
Each type has a “Template Sub-Attribute” (e.g., for numbers: Mobile/Landline/Toll-Free).

  3. 3. What are the steps to submit a CTA whitelisting request on the Tata DLT portal?

While full step-by-step details are in the guide, the general flow is:
    1. Login to Tata’s DLT portal.
    2. Navigate to the “CTA Whitelisting” section (or equivalent).
    3. Choose the CTA type (Number or URL) and fill in required details (the CTA itself, the header/sender ID, the category).
    4. Submit the request and await approval. Once approved, the CTA can be used in campaigns.

  4. 4. Are there special rules for URLs (static vs dynamic) when using Tata’s portal?

Yes. The guide notes that for URLs you may have to handle:
    – Static URLs (fully specified)
    – Dynamic URLs with query parameters — you will often whitelist the base path and allow parameters.
It’s important that the URL is exactly what will appear in your message (or correctly matches the whitelisted pattern) to avoid blocking.

  5. 5. What happens if I use a CTA that is not whitelisted on the Tata portal?

If you use a CTA that hasn’t been approved/whitelisted, your SMS may get blocked or refused by the telecom operator’s delivery scrubbing—leading to non-delivery, compliance risks or rejection of the campaign.

  6. 6. Is there a deadline or effective date for CTA whitelisting on Tata’s portal?

The broader regulatory mandate (for all operators) around CTA whitelisting became effective around 1 October 2024. It’s best practice to have all CTAs whitelisted well before sending campaigns.

  7. 7. What should I prepare before submitting a CTA for whitelisting on Tata’s portal?

    You should ensure:
    – You have the exact CTA (URL or Phone number) you intend to include in your SMS.
    – Ensure the CTA corresponds exactly to what you will use in the SMS (including domain, parameters for URL).
    – Your sender header/sender-ID or brand is already registered on the DLT portal.
    – You have any required declaration or documentation ready (if applicable).
    – Submit the request via the CTA Whitelisting section, monitor status, and only use the CTA in your campaigns once approved.
